Ron Morecraft

Photographer

Asheville resident Ron Morecraft worked both as a fine and commercial artist for over 30 years. A graduate of Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts, as well as the Academies of Fine Art in Milan and Rome, Ron began with a studio in NYC, where he created award winning special effects photographs for innumerable clients ranging from CBS Records to Reader's Digest.

About the art Ron's mastery of photography and digital media puts him at the forefront of innovators using the new tools of the contemporary artist. Not married to a particular style, Ron's images range from super-realistic to surrealistic. In order to achieve his effects, Ron expertly employs a variety of techniques. Using his original photos as reference, he paints with a special stylus, making each individual brush stroke. To create his mystical collages, Ron gathers images: lichen on a tree trunk, a decaying sea wall, flowers, people, whatever inspires his vision, then assembles the elements in the computer, allowing different parts, textures and colors to be revealed according to his vision. Each of Ron's images is unique .

Ron makes his own prints on either archival watercolor paper or canvas using permanent pigment inks. This technique is called gicle é and is being utilized by artists and photographers around the world, including world renowned photographers like Chuck Close. The gicle é s are then coated with several layers of UV protective coating. These pictures outlast traditional photography, and are rated for up to 200 years. Like any fine art prints, proper care is required. Keep out of direct sunlight, heat, and humidity and they will remain in excellent condition for many years to come.
