Mark Haines Painter – Oils and Watercolors “ Mark Haines works in both oil and watercolors. He particularly likes the “pastel” qualities of oil on unprimed watercolor paper, along with the texture and visual effect that on-canvas blending and rough bristles and palette knife bring to the print surface, giving it a “worked” appearance. “Of the various descriptions others have used for my work, “painterly realism” is probably the one I think fits best. I paint simply because I've always felt the need to do so. I enjoy interpreting interesting subjects or compositions I see around me and hope that they strike a chord with the viewer. With luck, my handling of the subject matter will elicit a fond memory of a place or time in the viewers' lives.” |
